[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_empty_space height=”75px”][vc_column_text]The rugged and majestic mountains that surround Chilliwack attract hikers and climbers from all over the world. These activities have inherent risk and sometimes accidents happen and when they do, the members of Chilliwack Search & Rescue respond.

Over the years Chilliwack SAR has developed and maintained a highly skilled and functional Rope rescue team that has gained the skills and abilities to respond a variety of situations that require the use of Rope Rescue techniques to access or evacuate an injured person.

Technical Rope Rescue is a highly sophisticated and documented skill set that requires extensive training, practice and skills maintenance. Any rescue that requires ropes and rope systems have an element of risk. Therefore, all rigging and systems are checked by three people (triple-check) prior to use. A safety factor of 10:1 is utilized for rigging and equipment on all training and emergency rescue situations, which means the setup needs to withstand at least 10 times the expected load.

Technical rope rescue uses a 2-rope (typically) system with one rope serving as the load line and the other as the belay. The rescue technique is “top down”, meaning the gear is set up above the person to be rescued. Once the subject has been secured, he/she may be lowered or raised to complete the rescue.

Chilliwack SAR trains all of its members in basic rope rescue techniques. Once members have a solid understanding of the basic knots and rope rescue principals they can further their training by attending Emergency Management BC sponsored rope rescue workshops and work towards certification as a rope rescue team member or rope rescue team leader.

Chilliwack SAR uses its rope rescue skills in a variety of situations including rescue from alpine mountain areas, cliffs, and accidents over steep embankments.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”75px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_empty_space height=”75px”][mk_custom_sidebar sidebar=”sidebar-1″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][mk_gallery images=”7943,7953,7929,7970,7933″ style=”style3″ height=”365″ margin_bottom=”50″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1460493882099{margin-bottom: 0px !important;border-bottom-width: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_column][mk_revslider id=”callaction”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
