[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_empty_space height=”75px”][vc_column_text]The Chilliwack and Vedder Rivers (one river, the name changes part way along) is one of the most popular salmon fishing rivers in BC. With its proximity to Vancouver, it is not uncommon to see sections of its banks lined with fisherman almost shoulder to shoulder. The river is also very popular with white water rafters, kayakers and in the summer people on inner tubes just trying to cool off. There is even a section of the river, near Tamahi Rapids that is primarily used as training ground for the Canadian Kayak team.
With all this activity on a swift moving river, strewn with large boulders and trees of all shapes and sizes, accidents can happen(The potential for accidents is always there). Chilliwack SAR has identified the need for a highly skilled and equipped rescue team able to search the river for missing persons or to perform rescues from anywhere on the river.
Chilliwack SAR has two 14’ white water rafts and works with a local Rafting outfitter, Chilliwack River Rafitng, who assists with training on an ongoing basis. All SAR members as part of their basic course receive training on safety around swift water; while other members have further training in swift water search operations and swift water rescue techniques.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”75px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_empty_space height=”75px”][mk_custom_sidebar sidebar=”sidebar-1″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][mk_gallery images=”7953,7972,7973,7986,7987″ style=”style3″ height=”365″ margin_bottom=”50″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1460493882099{margin-bottom: 0px !important;border-bottom-width: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_column][mk_revslider id=”callaction”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
